Jewish Life Programs

We offer a wide array of informal Jewish educational experiences. We feel that learning (especially about Torah and Judaism) cannot be confined to the classroom. Learning takes place all around us, all the time.

Tefilla – Our prayer program provides students with options to explore, practice, and create meaningful and spiritual Tefilla experiences.  For more detailed information, click here.

Tikkun Olam –All students at the Adelson Campus work a number of hours per year at community service sites as part of their quest to “repair the world”.

Israel –In addition to teaching about Israel in the curriculum, the Adelson Campus provides opportunities for students to go to Israel.  We instill in our students an attachment to the State of Israel and its people, as well as a sense of responsibility for their welfare.  Currently, our 8th graders tour Israel for a week, we are planning for our 12th graders to study Jewish history in Israel for several weeks, and our 11th graders have the chance to travel to Poland and Israel through the March of the Living program.

Shabbatonim –Shabbatonim are a staple of our Jewish Life program in the Middle and Upper School.  Students participate in a number of thematic retreats based upon a communal Shabbat experience, both within the Adelson Campus community and also with Jewish schools from across the country.   We also host Shabbat dinners for our faculty and families.

Chagim – The community’s experiential Jewish holiday program reflects a commitment to a transdenominational vision of Judaism that embraces all denominations.  We build our own Sukkah, have a fun Purim shpiel and carnival, host a “Passport to Israel” experience program on Israel Independence day, and much more.  Each holiday is celebrated in a special way.

Kabbalat Shabbat
Each Friday, students gather by division in our Beit Midrash to celebrate the upcoming Shabbat.  This is a time to celebrate, reflect, build community, share, sing, and mark sacred time.   This occasion gives us more opportunity to practice the Tefillot that students learn about in their classes.

Each week during Kabbalat Shabbat we also learn about Parshat HaShavua, the Torah portion of the week.  As students grow older, they begin to take responsibility for giving the Davar Torah.   Students also discuss the “value of the week” during this time.  This topic chosen comes from a values curriculum in which the entire school community unifies and integrates around.

Town Meeting/Beit Midrash – On Fridays as part of Kabbalat Shabbat, each division has a weekly community-wide interactive meeting designed to introduce our students and faculty to new, exciting, and provocative ideas relating to Judaism or current events in Israel.  Students and teachers regularly suggest or lead discussions.
