ERB TEST
Students in the Middle School are given standardized testing in the spring of each year. Students in grades 4 - 7 will take the ERB test. The ERB, a standardized test administered at a majority of independent day schools throughout the country, is used to identify the strengths and challenges unique to each of our students. Additionally, the ERB test intends to assist schools with making decisions regarding curriculum, classroom instruction, class placement, and establishes a baseline of meaningful data to determine whether our students are proficient in reading and math appropriate to their grade level. The test will be administered online; the same format as last year. Our students are knowledgeable with respect to online testing formats from taking the SRI and STAR math tests multiple times during the year. Students in grade 8 will take the EXPLORE test, the entry measure of progress in ACT’s educational planning system providing an early indication of “college readiness”. Students taking the EXPLORE, will test in the areas of English, math, reading, and science. Consequently, it is of extreme importance that students sleep well the night before, eat a good breakfast the morning of testing, and arrive to school on time every day during testing.
Another critical aspect of testing is a student’s attitude and state of mind before taking the test. Please help your student on the day of testing by ensuring a calm and conflict-free morning and encourage them to put in his or her best effort.
The testing schedule by grade is as follows:
Grade 5
ERB - Monday, May 20 through Friday, May 24
Grades 6 and 7
ERB – Monday, May 28 through Monday, June 3
