NATIONAL SIGNING DAY
National Signing Day is the first day that a High School senior can sign a binding National Letter of Intent for college sports. On Wednesday, February 1, AEC star soccer player Nevo Ziv sat in the Adelson Campus main gymnasium surrounded by family, coaches and friends to officially commit to Case Western Reserve University.
“I selected Case Western Reserve because of its excellent academic reputation for Engineering, which is what I want to study,” states Nevo. “I was recruited over the summer at the Future 500 Soccer camp and then, after the official campus visit, I knew this was the perfect fit for me.”
Nevo comes off an undefeated season (12-0-1), leading the team in goals scored (19), assists (10) and shots on goal (92). “Nevo has been a standout performer for Adelson soccer, dating back to his 5th grade year,” claims Coach Dan Kelly. Nevo has been a 4-year varsity starter and team captain for 3 years. He is the all-time leader in goals for Adelson with 51 and has finished in the top 10 in Las Vegas for goals in his junior and senior years. “As the statistics show, Nevo has been a tremendous asset to the team’s success these past three years, " says Coach Naftaly. “Also, he epitomizes what a student-athlete should be by combining a strong academic ability in the classroom with a tenaciousness on the pitch.”
“For all the school’s we looked at, academics was always my first priority. However, it was really important to me to also play soccer at the next level; and, I couldn’t be happier about attending Case Western Reserve and playing for the Spartans,” beams Nevo.
Nevo’s parents proudly sat by his side and recalled all the early morning workout drop offs, summer camps and the overall commitment it takes for a team of people to make a day like today possible. “We are so proud of Nevo and feel he is in good hands at Case Western University,” boasts Noam, Nevo’s father.
Nevo had thought of this moment as a young student and claims, “you must love the game and continue to be passionate about it. All the hard work and effort over the years was fun for me because I love the game.”
“Congratulations to Nevo Ziv for his outstanding accomplishment of having the opportunity of playing collegiate soccer at Case Western Reserve University next year. Nevo is our 3rd student athlete in our 7 graduating classes to have had the opportunity to extend his playing career into college,” states Coach Kelly. “He is one of the most committed and hardest working athletes we have had in any sport at our school. It’s fitting that he is also an outstanding student in the classroom. Nevo has done a great job representing Adelson as one of our top performing student athletes and we wish him the very best at Case Western Reserve.”
