AEC Technology Showcased in China

AEC Technology Professional Development Coordinator Robin Pence was recently honored as one of three keynote speakers at the National Forum for the Application of Artificial Intelligence in Primary and Secondary Schools in Hangzhou, China.
As the sole representative from the United States, Robin shared about the development and growth of Coding, Technology Integration and Computer Science at the Adelson Educational Campus over the past 5 years; as well as learning experiences with the new Apple Swift Playgrounds Coding Software and Curriculum. She presented to a group of 600 educators, Chinese policy makers, and college professors from Chinese universities. As a distinguished participant at the conference, Robin was able to attend presentations on how Artificial Intelligence, Science Inquiry-based learning, Design Thinking, and Technology are being applied in other parts of the world.
While in China, Robin observed Coding, Science, and STEAM lessons at the Hangzhou Shanghai World Foreign Language Primary School. Robin plans to work with our Lower School’s STEAM Elementary Educators and build a partnership with educators in Hangzhou that will continue to support this program in China and at the AEC. Robin is working to help Chinese students be able to attend our summer USA Ready Study Program ans also help to build our International Student program in the coming years.
Robin has been selected to present this coming June at the ISTE 2018 Conference in Chicago, Illinois. The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) is a nonprofit organization that serves educators interested in better use of technology in education. ISTE serves more than 100,000 education stakeholders throughout the world through individual and organizational membership and support services. The ISTE Conference & Expo is the most comprehensive educational technology event in the world and the must-attend event for thousands of educators looking to harness the power of technology to advance learning and teaching. Each year ISTE’s expert program team carefully review thousands of proposals and select the sessions that are timely and in demand by educators to feature at the event.
Robin’s presentation is entitled: “TECHUP! Boomerang: Ignite the World of Professional Learning.” Proudly representing Adelson Campus, Robin will discuss a new process she has developed to seek, find and share professional learning that is aligned with the ISTE Standards.
