This Week in Lower School 1/8/2021

Welcome Back!

As part of our Post Break Re-entry Plan, we welcomed our students back (virtually) to the start of the second semester for the 2020-2021 school year. Teachers were very excited to see their students after the two week break and we are even more excited to welcome everyone back to campus on Monday, January 11th. Thank you to our teachers, students, and parents for a successful week of remote learning, as well as COVID testing day, as we return from break in a safe manner.

100th Day of School Canned Food Drive

Every year, our Lower School students participate in a Tikkun Olam activity where they collect food for families in need. This food drive is in celebration of our 100th day of school, where each class aims to collect at least 100 items of food for the collection.  Many of the classes will participate in math activities connected to the collection of food items and we look forward to sharing the total amount of food raised. The classes also have a friendly competition to see which class can collect the most food items.  All food will be donated to Aishel Avraham and JFSA. The drive will run from January 11th to January 25th (100th day of school).

Hebrew Language Learning Week

This week, we marked the Hebrew Language Day which falls on the birthday of Eliezer Ben Yehuda, the father of the modern spoken Hebrew language. The purpose of this day is to promote the Hebrew language in Israel and all around the world. Our students learned about Eliezer Ben Yehuda and how he revived the Hebrew language. Our younger classes focused on vocabulary words they were familiar with and our older grades used the vocabulary words to build sentences. Each student created a Hebrew stamp with their words and sentences.

Thank you to everyone for your patience while we had to switch links and a special thank you to the Shinshinim and Student Council members Mia Scala, Addison Kelly, and Sivan Barshishat for leading us in the Shabbat blessings.
