Presidents Day

Second Grade Presidents Day Performance

Our Second Grade classes worked together to create an amazing Shabbat performance for Presidents’ Day! Through song and poetry, they expressed all that they had learned about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, including Washington’s status as a general and the first President of the United States as well as his role in the Revolutionary War. In addition, they shared their appreciation of Lincoln’s early upbringing in a log cabin, his rise to President, and his signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. The students We are very proud of our Second Graders, their newfound knowledge, and their willingness to honor these two American heroes!

Tree Planting

Planting for Tu B’shevat

Thanks to our shinshinim, students enjoyed the experience of planting for Tu B’Shvat while learning about Israel through an environmental lens. Shai shared that this holiday holds a distinct memory for her. She enjoys nature with her family, and every year on Tu B’Shvat they would go outside and look for the beautiful blossoming almond trees (Shkediyah). She explained how even though it is often cold or rainy (just like we experienced last week here in Vegas) the trees are the markers of the beginning of spring. Raz shared with the students that the holiday celebrates the land, the plants, and the seasons in Israel. His family loves walking through the forest trails and finding different spots to have a picnic. It is the season where there are always colorful wildflowers to be seen but not picked. He then read them a story that was written by Shai and himself.  Following that, the students played a game which reinforced the Hebrew vocabulary they had learned for the holiday. After learning about Tu B’Shvat from our Shinshinim, each elementary class planted strawberry and mint plants in our outdoor garden with Ms. Page. Our Second grade students made the beautiful garden signs written in Hebrew and English. We are looking forward to seeing our class plants grow.
