MEETING Minutes – January 11, 2023 | 8:15 am

Welcome Back Adelson Families!

Happy New Year from Adelson PA!!

Featured Speaker: Laura Bruni, Director of Student Support Services

Ms. Bruni oversees educational specialists (2) and school counselors (3) in the Student Support Services department. Many students in today’s schools are neurodivergent (which doesn’t mean that they are not smart or can’t learn – ex. Autism spectrum, Tourette’s syndrome, or dyslexia). Within Neurodivergence, there are students who are “twice – exceptional” meaning they are neurodivergent but also exceptionally gifted. Our educational specialists are certified to work with neurodivergent students. To meet with and have plans with our Student Support Team, students must be diagnosed by an outside doctor, then doctor recommendations may potentially be carried out by the school staff (some cannot). School counselors also help children who are not neurodivergent, but who are having problems due to family issues, the pandemic or nonspecific behavior problems (anxiety, depression, anger issues). If parents have any questions, need services, or want to discuss needs of their child, please reach out to Ms. Bruni.

Parents Association Meeting Minutes

December 7, 2022

Welcome

Peter Gordon, Head of School, applauded the PA for the Parents Night Out event. He said it embodied exactly what we have been trying to do within the school community. The feeling of the event was very positive and full of goodwill. The school is trying to usher forward more opportunities with parents being on campus with the upcoming 5th grade show, Wax Museum, Shabbat and Hanukkah parties. The Administration is really trying to emphasize the fun spirit within the school. Gifting for teachers, which has been handled by the PA in the past, has been changed to more of a personal effort for each individual parent. Last week was the most attended Shabbat service this year and it is very important for childhood development that the parents come to shabbat and spend time with their kids. US exams begin next week, and their day will end around 11:30am. We want to achieve a high standard within the school and elevate the line of the work we are doing. Next year's schedule is being worked on more purposefully - the year will be starting later in August, and the scheduling between various areas of the school (PS through HS) will be more mainstream. March 11th will be our celebration honoring the legacy and vision of Mr. Sheldon Adelson, along with special recognition to Raiders owner, Mark Davis.
