jennifer.newman@adelsoncampus.org
Hello, my name is Jennifer Newman. I moved to Las Vegas nineteen years ago from Southern California to further my education and career in teaching. I received my Bachelors of Science degree in Elementary Education K-8 through Nova Southeastern University. I began my career teaching in a private school in Westlake Village California and went on to pursue what has now been a twenty-six year career teaching grades K-3. Fourteen of those amazing years have been here at the Adelson Campus as a first, second, and third grade teacher. My goal is to challenge and develop young minds, while encouraging independence along the way. I believe that children learn it by doing it therefore, a hands-on approach as well as real-world application are both integrated daily throughout class lessons. Another strong belief of mine is the importance of understanding different learning styles. Modifying curriculum to meet the needs of each child is necessary for an effective learning environment and is utilized daily. I feel very proud to be a part of such an amazing group of teachers and our incredible student body here at the Adelson Campus.

She never imagined working in a school, but has found her work here at Adelson very fulfilling. Holding down the fort in the office, helping students and families, a member of the Sunshine Committee, helping with the Alumni Association and spearheading the Graduation Ceremony, keeps her busy. One of the highlights of her job is when Alumni come back to visit. It is so much fun to see the students grow throughout their upper school years, and then to hear about their life after Adelson.

David Philippus was born and raised in Denver, Colorado. Thanks to the influence of strong music programs in middle and high school, Mr. Philippus has carved out an exciting and successful path for himself in music and education. Music has allowed him to travel the world and has introduced him to unique experiences. At an early age Mr. Philippus was selected to play in the McDonald's All-American Grammy Band in New York City where he learned to love Big Band Jazz and to love New York City. After earning his bachelors in Jazz Performance at the University of Nevada Las Vegas on the trombone, he followed his passion for performing to New York City where he freelanced in salsa bands and jazz clubs, and played on Broadway in the orchestra pit for Hairspray. He also toured the east coast with the Artie Shaw Band. After finishing his masters in Jazz Performance from the State University of New York at Purchase, Philippus took a job in Japan for a year, playing in a wide variety of ensembles. Upon returning to the states, Philippus decided to return to Las Vegas where he played with Alicia Keys, Natalie Cole, Michel Legrand, Neil Sedaka, Frankie Vallie, The OJ's, Michael Grimm (winner of America's Got Talent), Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, and many more. He also performed with Phantom of the Opera the Las Vegas Spectacular, The Producers, Legends in Concert, Spamalot, Donny and Marie, Lion King and is involved in a lot of the productions that come through the Smith Center. He is currently playing at Vegas! The Show at Planet Hollywood. His love for music and education has brought him to the Adelson Campus in 2011, where he has helped to build the same kind of inspiring band program that motivated his career.
