It has been an exciting time for our fifth grade students this year.  They have reaped many benefits from being the leaders in the Lower School. They have been able to assume leadership roles in the Lower School, becoming the Tikkum Olam Project Managers, Emcees of the Lower School events and getting leads in the Lower School musical, while enjoying the security of a homeroom teacher, the privilege of having lockers and even their own “hang out” space.   Our students have been introduced...   School was closed on Monday in remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  We hope that you had a meaningful day with your family. Our students discussed whom Dr. King was, what he stood for and what he tried to accomplish throughout his life.  Though many of these concepts are difficult for our youngest students to grasp, our teachers provided age appropriate activities to get their students thinking.  They used brown eggs and white eggs to demonstrate that just because our outsides... Welcome back!  Upon their return to school, our preschool students were greeted by a large, cheery snowman.  What a way to start a winter week! Our youngest students created snow globes, played with snow that they made in class, matched mittens, read The Mitten, by Jan Brett, and wrote about snowmen.  They dressed in winter jackets and noticed the difference in how warm our coats kept them, compared with their regular indoor clothing. We got to wear our winter coats during recess on some... Read More

What an amazing week we’ve had!  We’ve been so busy with our last minute Hanukkah preparations and of course, what holiday would be complete without some delicious treats!  This week, we spent time in the kitchen: grating, mixing, rolling and sprinkling.  Some of us made yummy latkes while singing every latke song we knew.  Others rolled out cookie dough, cut the shapes and sprinkled blue sugar for a tasty treat for our families.  We love experiencing the many customs of Hanukkah in all... Parents: This has been a week filled with learning, building, and experiencing Hanukkah in all areas of our curriculum.  Our preschoolers enjoyed creating many holiday projects, from crafting dreidel people to building their own unique Hanukkah (Hanukkah menorah).  They have been learning songs and practicing for their performances.   Some of our classes read the story The Magic Dreidel, about a dreidel that spins out latkes wherever it goes.  After hearing the story, each child had to write... Parents, Our favorite books came to life this week!  Characters from some of the most well known classic children’s stories read to our youngest students earlier this week.  The children sat entranced by the voices from the mouths of their most beloved storybook friends.  Our older students were challenged to solve literature based clues to find the hidden pirate treasure chest.  Students in K-5th grade were split into groups and had to solve story-based clues, like, “As a young child, Matilda...
