Over the past month, 5th grade students were involved in designing their own 3D Dreidel from start to finish in their Discovery Lab and Incubator Technology class.  Students had to first draw out their designs, then transfer their ideas into a 3D Design using the program Tinkercad. Students carefully measured and problem solved their iterations, and then brought them to life as they were 3D printed into reality, with final assembly by hand. We have been enjoying unicorns, fairies, gnomes, magical trees and so much more in our Enchanted Forest Book Fair this week. We had a heartwarming and enriching week at the Lower School! Today we enjoyed wonderful Thanksgiving celebrations with our younger students and their families. Our students celebrated the holiday through dancing, singing, and eating traditional foods. It is a culmination of the fall and Thanksgiving unit and we are thankful that we get to celebrate with our families. We are looking forward to the JK Thanksgiving show on Tuesday November 20, 2018. This past month, 19 students in 3rd-5th grade, embarked on a journey to campaign for an officer position in Adelson’s Student Council. These students decided they wanted to make a valuable contribution, to be involved, and be leaders and role models to their peers. Our candidates woke up early Monday mornings to learn valuable lessons. Students discussed what it means to be a leader, wrote essays on their qualifications, created slogans, designed catchy speeches, practiced presentation skills... Read More

Audrey Kammerer from the Summerlin Library gave a presentation to our JK - 2nd grade and our 3rd - 5th grade students on Tuesday morning. She read “Don’t Take Your Dragon to the Library,” and shared information about all that the library has to offer and the special events that take place at our local libraries. Today, our second graders presented their floor plan designs for a doll house project in art class. The students were surprised by a special guest to help give advice and positive feedback. That guest was Jon Sparer, the current president of AIA (American Institute of Architects) Nevada.   Lower School students are excited to light our Hanukkiah while bringing light to others! We had a busy and exciting week, and it culminated in wonderful Shabbat services. Next Friday is Nevada Day, and since we will be off, we were celebrating it today with a beautiful song and presentation from our 4th grade class: Home Means Nevada by Bertha Raffetto   During our Shabbat service our 5th grade students kicked off their Tikkun Olam initiative in partnership with the Southern Nevada chapter of Make a Wish foundation. This week is another great example of how experiences outside the classroom enrich our students’ learning. Meaningful learning occurs when students are able to make real world connections to their studies.   As a part of our social studies curriculum, the kindergarten studies their community. On Simchat Torah we celebrated the completion of reading the Torah and beginning reading it all over again. This week we learned about the days of creation. Kindergarten learned what was created each day and made a mobile of the seven days of creation. First grade made a book of creation in Hebrew..
