2nd Grade Field Trip  Our Second Graders had a fantastic field trip to the Nevada State Museum on Thursday. The students had an opportunity to view exhibits about the history of Nevada. In these exhibits, the children were immersed in galleries detailing the geology of our state. Also reviewed were early settlers and their behaviors, leading to the Boomtown Era. Shabbat Performance  We welcomed special guests Rinat and Gal, who gave us a special Tu B’Shvat performance for all three of our Shabbat celebrations this Friday. 100th Day of School Event + Food Drive  The 100th Day of school is highlighted by our annual canned food drive. We challenged each class to collect 100 food items to be donated to local food pantries. Along with this component of Tikkun Olam there are many other opportunities for our students to learn with the 100th day of school. Our Kindergarten through 5th grade students had the opportunity to attend an assembly on Friday centered around growth mindset.  The assembly introduces a cartoon boy named NED who is on a very important mission: to find his mindset. Led by clues and memorable characters, he overcomes Mt. Everest’s toughest obstacles, uncovers inner-treasures on a Caribbean island, and grows his brain while repairing a sputtering spaceship.   The 5th grade students joined the 6th grade for a day on Mt. Potosi. The day started with a morning hike at Calico Basin where Mr. Koch spoke about TuB’Shvat and had the students draw metaphorical connections about the seeds that their parents and grandparents have planted for them. Attorney General Visit This week, our 5th grade students had two very special visitors. As part of their unit on government, Nevada Attorney General and former Nevada State Senator Aaron Ford and his First Assistant Kyle George (father of 5th Grade student Mackenzie) spent time with our 5th graders. Hanukkah Shows  Thank you all for celebrating Hanukkah with us! It was a pleasure learning the Hanukkah story in a creative show led by our 5th graders, and enjoying the songs, dances, and foods together. Preschool Latke Making  On Thursday, the 2s through Junior Kindergarten students had the opportunity to try latkes. Students joined members of our PTO in the dining commons where Ms. Miri inspired everyone with her latke making skills. They also had fun working on Hanukkah coloring sheets and spinning Dreidels.   T-Shirt Design Contest  Congratulations to 5th Grader Samy Hahamy for winning the annual Lower School T-shirt design contest. Students had to design a T-shirt based on this year’s yearbook theme “Endless Possibilities.” There were over 60 submissions this year and it was very difficult finding a winner with all of the wonderful designs. Thanksgiving Shabbat/shows We had a heartwarming and enriching week in Lower School! Today we enjoyed wonderful Thanksgiving celebrations with our students and their families. Our students celebrated the holiday through dancing, singing, and eating traditional foods.
