Stand With Us To Help Israel

Friday, December 2, 2016
Dear Adelson Community,
As many of you know, for the last several days, Israel has experienced a devastating wave of terror-related fires across the entire country. There were more than 400 fires around the country and over 100,000 people have been evacuated.
Fortunately, there were no fatalities, but hundreds were hospitalized with burn injuries and for smoke inhalation. Thousands of families, schools and businesses suffered extensive property damage. The United States, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Russia, Ukraine, Italy, Bulgaria and the Palestinian Authority have sent firefighting aircrafts and crews to assist.
The city of Haifa has suffered tremendously in recent days. Our school has a strong relationship with Leo Baeck, a school in Haifa, which has sent us, so far, seven  “Young Ambassadors”. One of them, Noy, who has arrived this past August, has many friends who were impacted by the fires. Nearly 25% of Haifa’s residents were evacuated. Approximately 170 buildings and 1,184 damaged, of which Five Hundred and Twenty are uninhabitable.
The picture to the right is of Noy’s Middle School Science teacher’s apartment, which is located on the first floor. The teacher and her family are 1 of 650 Haifa families, which have lost everything they own.
This is an urgent call from our friends in Israel to stand side by side with them in time of need.  Our donations will help purchase urgently needed supplies such as clothing, bedding, blankets, school equipment, kitchen utensils and other essential items needed for their everyday life.
Leo Baeck is directly involved in the rehabilitation of sixty families. We aim to help them provide each family with the sum of 5,000 shekels ($1,300), which they will transfer directly to the families to purchase whatever they require for immediate relief. Money raised will replace schools supplies, kitchen appliances, furniture, children games, books and more.
Funds can be transferred directly to the Leo Baeck Education Center Foundation in Houston via check or wire transfer.
