This Week in Lower School 10/16-10/20, 2017

Friday, October 20, 2017

Our week has been one of school pride and building self-confidence. On Thursday our students ramped up the school spirit with a pep rally! Our fifth grade led the entire school with the fight song and our LS Dance Team performed their first dance. Students from all grades were there, giving our Lower School students the chance to interact and celebrate with Upper School. Our students also got to play games set up by the Upper School Student Council. This was a fantastic introduction to the type of work a student council takes part in. View all Pep Rally photos.

Our 3rd through 5th graders are starting the political process themselves! They will have the opportunity to run for the Lower School Student Council. Students have been busy working on essays stating why they’d like to run for office, as they prepare their campaigns and get ready for elections on 11/7. This even gives them the opportunity to write a persuasive essay with a tangible goal., as well as practice in public speaking and presenting.

Giving students the opportunity to feel pride in their schools and themselves is part of educating the whole child. Many of our students are running for offices, and all are very excited about the process and opportunity to be elected. We are also talking about the possibility of not being elected and how to deal with disappointment. This is a growing experience no matter what the results are.

Students have other avenues to shine and lead at AEC LS. We can’t wait for our Gardening Club to lead us with the new garden, and our Choir is getting ready to begin performing.

Special THANK YOU to Serina's grandfather who joined us today for Shabbat with his accordion. What a special treat for everyone, and Serina's grandfather has already agreed to return and perform for us again!
