Veterans Day
We honored our Veterans this past Monday by holding a special Veterans Day program and invited 14 Veterans and active duty service men and women to our campus. We started the program with the entire school huddled around the flagpole participating in the traditional raising of the American flag followed by Tapps and a rendition of the Star Spangled Banner, which was performed by our Upper School band. Each military guest then proceeded to an assigned classroom and gave a presentation about their military service. Our guest speakers included veterans and active duty members from the Air Force, Army, and Marines, some of whom are parents of AEC students. Many of the guests brought in special artifacts to pass around and explained the meaning and significance to the children. They also answered many questions from our students. After our guests left, our students wrote thank you cards to their guest speakers and then participated in the Jewish Soldiers Project. Through the Jewish Soldiers Project, students make Hanukkah cards for Jewish military men and women serving in the United States armed forces. During Hanukkah this year, members of our military who are stationed in America and abroad will receive these Hanukkah letters. View Photos

4th Grade Field Trip to Hoover Dam
Fourth grade students visited the Hoover Dam this week. Throughout the school year, students learn about Nevada state history in Social Studies and energy in Science. The Hoover Dam was an exciting destination to see both topics of study come to life. Students were amazed by the turbines powering California, Nevada, and Arizona on the Power Plant Tour, and everyone enjoyed walking across the dam into Arizona. Students also spent time in the museum and scenic overlooks learning about the sheer size and scope of this magnificent feat of engineering. View photos
Legacy Heritage Professional Development
Preschool teachers continued their professional development with the Legacy Heritage Foundation. They participated in two days of intensive workshops. The workshops focused on developing units that align with our standards and benchmarks. Teachers are very excited to apply their learning by implementing the material into their lesson plans.

Chef Aubree teaches an after school cooking class as part of the Lower School enrichment program. Students learn about ingredients, different foods, meal preparation, kitchen equipment, and kitchen safety. This week, her class prepared delicious BBQ beef, which ended up being an item on Tuesday’s lunch menu. Many of the students and staff enjoyed the tasty meal.
