The 5th grade students joined the 6th grade for a day on Mt. Potosi. The day started with a morning hike at Calico Basin where Mr. Koch spoke about TuB’Shvat and had the students draw metaphorical connections about the seeds that their parents and grandparents have planted for them. The trip continued on to Mt. Potosi where students participated in a plethora of activities that included TuB’Shvat tree building, improv, archery, origami, and a growth mindset activity. Students also had free time to explore the surrounding wilderness, play Gaga ball, and play in the snow. Students enjoyed lunch and dinner in the dining hall where the 5th and 6th grade students had quality time to interact. The 5th graders had to say good bye to the 6th graders and returned back to campus safely at 8pm. It was a very fun and exciting trip for our 5th graders. Our 5th graders are looking forward to more activities throughout the second semester.

To honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday this Monday, we watched a video during Shabbat and the 5th grade and read a poem through the perspective of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.. Given that their driving question for their study of American History is: “When should one question authority”, students made poignant connections between the injustices citizens experienced during both the  Revolutionary War and the Civil Rights Movement. Great job to the 5th grade with their presentation.

100th Day of School Canned Food Drive. To continue with our school-wide efforts in promoting Tikkun Olam, we are challenging each class in the entire Lower School to collect at least 100 cans to be donated to local food pantries. The final day of the drive is January 29th.
