This Week in Lower School 1/20-1/24, 2020

Friday, January 24, 2020
Our Kindergarten through 5th grade students had the opportunity to attend an assembly on Friday centered around growth mindset.  The assembly introduces a cartoon boy named NED who is on a very important mission: to find his mindset. Led by clues and memorable characters, he overcomes Mt. Everest’s toughest obstacles, uncovers inner-treasures on a Caribbean island, and grows his brain while repairing a sputtering spaceship. Throughout the performance, our students discovered how to activate their growth mindset to overcome social, emotional, and academic challenges. NED stands for Never give up, Encourage others, and Do your best.

In Hebrew, our 1st grade students learned about a story about a glidah (ice cream). They read a story in Hebrew, watched a video, learned vocabulary, and then they acted out the story of an ice cream lady bringing ice cream to children in her ice cream truck. Not only did the children learn about multiple components of a story in Hebrew, but the story taught about generosity and thoughtfulness.  To top it off, the Hebrew teachers surprised the students with an ice cream party.

Rosh Chodesh
This week, we recognize Rosh Chodesh (The first day of the Hebrew month). We have a tradition of rolling or braiding challah and allowing the students to bring their delicious creations home. We would like to thank the following families who sponsored this month’s challah bake.

We are less than 1 week away from the final day of the canned food on January 29th.
To continue with our school-wide efforts in promoting Tikkun Olam, we are challenging each class in the entire Lower School to collect at least 100 cans to be donated to local food pantries. Students have been bringing in cans over the past two weeks, but we are still trying to reach our goal of 100 cans per class.

Summer Camp at Adelson Campus registration has launched.  We are excited to continue to offer the same excellent summer day camp experience, while enriching our existing programs and introducing even more thoughtful programming.
