This Week in Lower School 12/10-12/14, 2018

Friday, December 14, 2018
For the past month in fourth grade, we have learned about reading and writing informational texts.  Students read biographies and researched famous people throughout history. As part of the project, students created timelines of their lives, made displays of important events, and wrote essays about their famous figures.  Today, the fourth graders dressed up to become their famous people for a living Wax Museum. Each student created an “exhibit” and gave their presentations from a first person perspective. They did an outstanding job!
Firefighter Nate visited our Junior Kindergarten and our 2’s classes on Wednesday. He read Firefighter Pete of the Pete the Cat series. After the story, he showed the children all of his firefighter gear and talked about how his equipment keeps him safe. He also taught them about how a firefighter maneuvers their way through a building with all of their gear. The children even had the opportunity to to touch and feel some of the really heavy gear.
This week our High School students welcomed the JK & 2nd graders to the Friday High School Shabbat for singing, dancing, and a fun time! We were fortunate to have DJ Sinai from Temple Beth Sholom lead all of our students in a sing along. The Lower School students brought their noise makers and scarves, and gave the High School students a taste of a Lower School  Shabbat looks and feels like. We love having our older friends with us and we are looking forward to more opportunities to have fun and grow together. We would like to thank the Upper School students and teachers for a memorable Shabbat.
Please remember to support the 4th grade book drive - you can bring books until 12/17. Watch the video, which was 100% produced by 4th grade students.  PLAY VIDEO
