This Week in Lower School 12/12-12/16, 2016

Friday, December 16, 2016

This has been a week filled with learning, building, and experiencing Hanukkah in all areas of our curriculum.  Our preschoolers enjoyed creating many holiday projects, from crafting dreidel people to building their own unique Hanukkah (Hanukkah menorah).  They have been learning songs and practicing for their performances.
Some of our classes read the story The Magic Dreidel, about a dreidel that spins out latkes wherever it goes.  After hearing the story, each child had to write about his or her own magic dreidel and decide what it would spin out.  Answers ranged from basketballs to food for hungry people!  After writing about their magic dreidels, the children created three dimensional works of art that depicted their dreidels spinning.  Some of our older students have written about the Hanukkah traditions they have at home. They wrote about how the holiday is celebrated and the special customs they share with their families.
Hanukkah has permeated all areas of curriculum, including Shabbat. We were excited to see so many parents join us for a Hanukkah themed Shabbat with our amazing Baby Bears, 2’s (view pictures) and 3’s classes (view pictures).  We are so proud of our littlest students and can’t wait to welcome our JK through 5th grade parents next week for our Hanukkah Experience on Tuesday, December 20 at 5pm.  The children are eager to perform and share all they have learned about this wonderful holiday.
We look forward to learning and experiencing even more next week as we continue the theme of Hanukkah.
