AEC 4th graders are thankful to AEC community for donating so many books to their book drive. Today they completed sorting and cleaning the books to be donated. Ms. Sara Silverberg, Sivan Bar Shishat’s mother, joined them for the final activity of Tikkun Olam for this semester. Ms. Silverberg works at Gragson Elementary School to which the books will be delivered.
This week the third and fourth grade Native speaking Hebrew class read a story called “Hasikah” from the Haverim B’ivrit curriculum. The story was about a Shuk/market day at a school and all the proceeds went to a charity organization. Our students made the story come alive by planning a Shuk/market for their fellow classmates. Each student chose something to sell and made signs for their booth. As the customers walked through the Shuk, the sellers were competing in selling their products by screaming in Hebrew just like the real Shuk in Israel. The fourth grade winners will also choose an organization to donate the money they collected.
Our 5th grade Tikkun Olam leaders are wrapping up the campaign for Make-a-Wish Foundation. It included selling stars for our Hanukkah, VIP seats for the Hanukkah show, dreidel spin off, and Dress Down for $1 day. We have collected approximately $5,000, which is enough funds to grant a wish for a sick girl to go to Disneyland !
The Lower School escape room is a scavenger hunt style activity that includes six interactive challenges related to social skills, including personal space, following directions, sharing, listening, proper greetings and having a positive attitude. Students work together to solve a variety of puzzles and challenges in order to discover the secret phrase to unlock the door and win the challenge in a specified amount of time. All of the grades participated in this activity within the last two weeks.
