This Week in Lower School 12/18-12/22, 2017

Friday, December 22, 2017
This week we were honored to celebrate the last night of Hanukkah with our kindergarten - fifth grade families.  Our 5th graders put together a Charlie Brown’s Hanukkah show. This culminating project integrated the learning of Jewish studies, art, music, drama, and Hebrew.
Each grade level, our new choir, and performing arts enrichment were represented on stage. Our students sang, danced, and performed songs honoring Jewish traditions and values. View Photos | Watch the full performance on our Youtube channel
The play was possible through the hard work of our students, our Hebrew teachers, Morah Dina, Coach Lisa, Ms. Levy, Ms. Dingle, Ms. Lucy, and the entire faculty of K-5th grade. Our fifth graders shined on stage as they led the show dressed as various Peanuts characters, including Snoopy himself! We thank all of our parents for their support with this show. Our theater was standing room only,, and the students were so proud to share this show with their families and friends. Our Preschool enjoyed a private showing before the big night as well.
We appreciate spending the holidays with our Adelson students; their excitement and joy while performing traditional and new Hanukkah songs helps build up our community and create memories for everyone. Enjoy these with your family:

We would like to thank our dedicated PTO and its president, Caline Schwartz, for all the wonderful support and all their hard work. Their dedication and commitment to our school definitely adds daily light to our lives in the Lower School. The preschool enjoyed yummy latkes that were fried by our parents: Rachel Allen, Aimee Cannon, Jaye Hooton, Robyn Hooton, and Caline Schwartz.  Each student received a dreidel and gelt from the PTO, and each classroom was given fun and educational gifts from the PTO. We are honored and thankful to partner with such an amazing group of volunteers.
Our first grade culminated their Fairy Tale unit with a Readers’ Theater presentation for friends and family. The students, divided into small groups, presented modern twists on known stories while practicing their reading fluency, reading with expression, public speaking, and even some acting. This integrated unit included language arts, math, STEM, and arts. In addition to learning the stories, each student wrote their own fairy tale, created dioramas of setting, built devices to get Rapunzel out of her tower, developed a perfect house for the Three Little Pigs, and practiced word problems in math with fairytale characters in a far, far away land.  We thank Ms. Correll and Ms. Novak for all their hard work with the first graders. View images
