This Week in Lower School 2/12-2/15, 2018

Thursday, February 15, 2018
Adar has begun, and with it, we take part of the mitzvah of being joyous during this month! Our students have had a lot to be happy about this week. We had a 2nd-grade field trip to the Nevada State Museum on Thursday, a dress up day for charity, swimming for many of our classes, and the first true harvest of the garden.
In Gardening Club students harvested plants like mustard and got to see how their hard work tending the garden pays off in a tactile manner. We will use the growing parsley for Passover; spreading that enthusiasm for our garden throughout the Adelson community. We are so proud of our students for their hard work tending to these plants. Not only are they learning the act of caring for the garden, they are also learning the science behind the process.
On Thursday, our students dressed up as their favorite characters from books, movies, and television. The event raised money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Students wore amazing and creative costumes like the Giving Tree, Madeline, Harry Potter, and Dr. Seuss characters! Teachers joined in on the fun as they taught as a minion, Hermione Granger, and even the Magic School Bus! We can’t wait to see everyone dress up again for Purim, on March 1st.
Lower School students had swim during PE this week. We welcome back budding journalist Lear Etzyoni (3rd), with her article on swim.
"Swim in Lower School"
By Lear Etzyoni
Every once in a while we do we do swim practice and free swim in PE. All Lower School students can swim in the big pool or small pool. Kindergarteners and younger kids go in the smaller pool because they are so little.  I like when we have swim practice because the bigger pool is so large. Swim is an aerobic sport and helps your sugar blood control. Swimming is a water exercise and helps people to lower their blood pressure. Swim is helpful for lots of people.
