First Grade Fairy Tale Performance

First grade’s Fairy Tale unit has come to a fun and exciting end with the Readers Theater performance and Author celebration. The unit began weeks ago as students listened to various Fairy Tales. They compared and contrasted the story elements and brainstormed their own original Fairy Tale. Next, they wrote a Fairy Tale plan where they chose their characters, identified the problem, and provided a solution in their original work as well as the setting. The students worked diligently on their rough drafts, eventually creating the published pieces they shared with parents today. During this unit, the learning was spread across different curricula. In art, the students created one of their characters out of clay. In science, the students were engaged in a STEAM project where they helped Red Riding Hood deliver cookies to Grandma using a catapult to avoid walking through the forest. In Discovery Lab, the students coded a save the date which was shared with parents using a QR code. In the classroom, the students also practiced their fluency as they read the scripts for the performance. The First graders should be very proud of their accomplishments!

Gearing up for Reading Week

We have a lot of exciting activities planned for the Lower School during Reading Week. Ms. Nails has planned numerous activities for our students which include guest authors, Reading Week themed workshops, a field trip, and reading to therapy dogs. There is also a Reading Week dress up day on Wednesday, March 4th where we are asking students to dress up in Western wear based on the theme “Saddle Up and Read.”

Curriculum & Coffee
The Lower School leadership team held their second of four informational sessions on details about our K-5 curriculum . Parents in attendance 0had the opportunity to learn more about our K-5 math curriculum, the Life Skills curriculum, and our multidisciplinary approach to learning. We look forward to sharing more valuable information in the two remaining sessions, Language Arts on March 4th and Hebrew/ Judaics on March 26th.
