Reading Week
This year's Reading Week theme was "Saddle Up and Read!" We were happy to see so many of our Lower School students participate in our Western-wear dress-up day on Wednesday. Our preschool students enjoyed our numerous guest readers throughout the week. We were thrilled to bring in award-winning and esteemed authors Dori Weinstein and Terri Farley. Our kindergartners also visited the Summerlin Library, and the 1st graders interacted in our school library with furry therapy dogs as reading buddies.
Meanwhile, our 2nd through 5th graders participated in special enrichment workshops to close out our reading celebration Friday. The enrichment workshops included quilting, Tumblewords Improvisation, cowboy poetry, and folk music, and dancing. Despite being action-packed, there was plenty of relaxing in the Ole Readin' Barn. This feature included down-home Reading Buddy activities, dynamic presentations from our guests, all emphasizing our school's commitment to creating life-long readers. Yee-haw Lil' readers!
2nd Grade Virtual Reality
The 2nd grade had the opportunity to explore the Statue of Liberty through virtual reality via the Google Expeditions application. With the help of some of our Upper School Social Studies students, the 2nd graders went beyond the limitations of the classroom and explored Lady Liberty as part of their unit on American Symbols. The in-depth virtual tour allowed our students to feel like they were actually in and around this magnificent American monument.
