Purim is here and we are ready! We’ve had an amazing week of creating, baking, role playing and rehearsing. Our preschool students rolled out dough, cut circles shapes and after putting a few chocolate chips in the middle of the dough, turned the circles into triangles by folding and pinching. Though they enjoyed the process of creating the hamantashen, they especially enjoyed tasting them! The preschool students also created their own groggers (noisemakers) to used during the megillah reading (the story of Purim). The students learned that every time they hear Haman’s name, they need to shake their groggers and make lots of noise!
Our fourth and fifth graders were so proud to kick off our day long celebration by leading the parades. The fifth graders showed off their musical talents on their instruments. Our third graders shared their acting talents in their performance of a “Purim Schpiel”. What an amazing presentation!
Our K through 4th grade students learned about the mitzvah of Matanot L’evyonim (mah-tah-note li-ev-yo-neem), giving to the poor. They packed Mishloach Manot (gift containing at least two different foods) for the needy using all of the items brought in throughout last week! We collected so much that they were able to make more baskets than they originally planned to make. Thanks to all of our amazing families for donating so much food and for helping to make Purim fun and festive for so many needy families.
In addition to the mitzvah of giving to the poor, our students learned it is also a mitzvah to give Mishloach Manot to friends and family. To fullfil this mitzvah, each student made Mishloach Manot that was taken home by a classmate at the end of the day’s celebrations.
Shabbat Shalom and Chag Purim Sameach (Happy Purim)!
