Purim
This week, we celebrated a festive Purim, as we saw students and staff dress up in their creative costumes on this joyous holiday. The Kindergarten through 4th-grade started their day with the annual Purim play put on by the 3rd-grade students, performed in English and Hebrew. Next, we listened to the Megillah reading by our Upper School students. We then fulfilled the Purim Mitzvah Matanot Leevionim (gifts for people in need) by packing the food we collected on the 100th day of school in baskets and preparing them for delivery. After performing the mitzvah, they enjoyed the carnival festivities in the main gym, which included bounce houses, crafts, sports, and face painting.

Preschool students enjoyed a wonderful day filled with exciting activities. The fun started with a costume parade around school that ended up in the Beit Midrash, where they watched a fun Megillah play put on by the preschool teachers. Following the play, the children enjoyed their Purim carnival in the Lower School gym, where parent volunteers led a variety of fun stations. To add to the festivities, all Preschool students made Ra’ashanim (traditional noisemakers).

Our 5th-grade students helped with the Preschool/LS parades, and then joined the Middle School in their festivities as another opportunity to prepare for their transition to Middle School. We recognize all of the hard work that went into the planning of this day, and we couldn’t have done it without the vision of Morah Dina and the help of our wonderful parent volunteers! Thank you for all of your time and effort to make this a memorable day for our students. Additionally, many thanks go to chair volunteers (Vivian Levisman and Danielle Pokroy) and the Upper School band.

Hamantaschen Baking
This week our preschool students baked Hamentashen. Students shaped the dough into traditional triangles and added their chocolate chip toppings in this splendid sensory activity. After this, 1st grade assisted in baking the Hamantaschen. As part of Purim tradition, the 1st graders heard and discussed the story of Esther's scroll and ate Hamantashen- "Ozen Haman"- אוזן המן. To accompany the joyous occasion, the students also read the story "The Better Than Best Purim" by Naomi Howland.
