The end of the school year brings lots of end of the year parties. This week, we had four!
On Tuesday, our 3’s had a wonderful time sharing all they have learned through their exploration of Letterland. Each child portrayed a letter as they performed a medley of songs in English and Hebrew. They were so excited to share their newfound knowledge with their friends and families before heading back to their classrooms to enjoy a delicious treat. View pictures.
On Thursday, our JK students graduated; complete with cap, gown and pomp and circumstance! The curtain opened to all 41 of our JK students dressed in blue and white with colorful painters caps. They sang lots of songs and each child spoke so beautifully about something pertaining to the letter they represented. Especially touching was the video montage the JK teachers put together. What a wonderful morning! View Pictures.
Friday morning our 2’s had their end of the year Shabbat with parents. They shared four of the many books they have read and learned from throughout the year. Parents watched as the children sang, cheered and shouted out their responses to the questions the various books posed about colors, shapes, numbers and movement. The children sang songs in Hebrew and presented their parents with special gifts. It was such a sweet celebration! View Pictures.
Kindergarten students also celebrated the end of their Solar System unit on Friday morning. In Shabbat all three classes entertained the Lower School by singing “I am the Earth” and afterwards the students shared their interdisciplinary projects from the unit with their families in the classrooms.
We were excited to take part in the Lions' Pride walk, a traditional walk of our the senior class in their graduation gowns. Students in grades 1-5 cheered on the graduates as they were making their way down the halls of our school. We are proud of the class of 2017! View Pictures.
In addition to all of the end of year celebrations, our third grade classes presented their final Native American projects to their parents in the lower school gym on Wednesday morning. Life size totem poles, created in art class flanked the entrance of the gym. They displayed their 3-D projects of their chosen tribes while the parents walked around the room looking and asking questions. The parents could also watch a Prezi presentation that was created by each child on their i-Pads. Third grade boys and girls provided entertainment by playing and dancing to authentic Native American music to the beat of the drums. Also on display, were the many artifacts from the different tribes around the United States and the student’s impressive portfolios that they created throughout the whole year. . It was a great success and enjoyed by all.
In preparation for their field trip to the Hoover Dam next week, the fourth graders welcomed a visitor from the Mob Museum, who presented about the Boulder Canyon Project and its role in creating the city of Las Vegas. Students not only learned about the creation of the Hoover Dam, but they also got to hold and examine artifacts from the museum, helping make history come alive.
It was quite a busy week and we next week is sure to be the same, with field trips, assemblies and four performances of the Jungle Book. Don’t forget to purchase your Jungle Books tickets! The link is listed below with all the show times. We look forward to seeing you there!
