This Week in Lower School 8/21-8/25, 2017

Friday, August 25, 2017

If you walk through our halls you might notice that it’s rare to see a class listening to a lecture. That’s because most of the time our students are engaged in hands on projects and learning. This week brought two ways for students to partake in more learning that's geared at the whole child.

Starting on Monday many students began the after school enrichment classes. After school enrichment classes allow students to learn new skills and build on those gained in class. Students don’t even realize they’re learning as they have after school fun! They're having a blast doing pliés with Ms. Lilly, learning teamwork in Soccer Stars, counting in French, and so many other fun activities.

Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders also got to start their own special experiential learning on Tuesday. These older students got to hear about clubs they can join. Students signed up for clubs like gardening, journalism, art, yoga, math, and science innovation. Next week they’ll get to have their very first club meeting; club meetings take place during the school day. During club times students experience a topic that is close to their heart, while developing leadership skills. We are excited about the collaboration with Middle School clubs: some of our clubs are led by middle school students and their advisors. We will switch clubs every quarter to give each student many new experiences this year.  Be sure to ask your student what they look forward to!

More specialty programs are coming to AEC in the upcoming weeks; like choir, To Infinity and Beyond, Student Council, and more.  Please stay tuned for information about our morning enrichment courses.

To Infinity and Beyond, which will be offered to students grades K-2 and 3-5 on Mondays, starting September 11th, from 7:10 to 7:55. Students will enjoy math challenges and broaden their math thinking through games, riddles, and more. On Friday, September 8th, our choir will meet for the first time from 7:15 to 7:55. Students in grades 3 - 5 are invited to join. PBJ and PBJ Prep will be launched in mid-October.

First grade had a very special visitor in Hebrew this week- Ariot the Lion! Students learn Hebrew with the help of this lion’s Hebrew books, and now they have met him in person. First graders were talking all day about meeting their favorite lion!

Our Preschool had a very successful Back to School Night on Wednesday. Parents got to experience what their students do every day here at Adelson. We look forward to next week’s Back to School Night for our Kinder through 5th Grade families.

Shabbat Shalom!
