This Week in Lower School 9/12-9/14, 2018

Friday, September 14, 2018

The ten days between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are called Aseret Yemei Tshuva- the ten days of repentance. During these days we reflect on our actions and behaviors. Our fourth graders have studied the seven steps of repentance and applied them to daily life situations.

In Kabbalat Shabbat they shared the steps with us.
Understanding:  We understand that we did something wrong/bad.
Stop: We stop the bad behavior.
Regret: We regret and reflect and think about how it was not a good choice.
Sorry:  We are sorry and are asking forgiveness from God, friends, and family.
Decision:  We make a decision not to do it again.
Promise:  We promise God, friends, and family that we will not repeat the bad behavior.
Success:  We achieve the goal of not repeating the bad behavior.

As we get closer to Yom Kippur and Sukkot we learn about these holidays: the minhagim (customs), the blessings, and the connection to our personal lives.

We are excited to meet with our AEC community for our second annual Tashlich trip on Sunday 9/16. Please join us for a story and art in nature, a stroll and picnic, and even an opportunity to  symbolically cast our sins to the water. See Flyer.

1st grade had the wonderful opportunity to visit the Las Vegas Natural History Museum as part of the introduction to their study of habitats. The classes were able to view different habitat exhibits such as the African savanna, Nevada desert, marine, and prehistoric life. The guided tour led them on an adventure, where they learned about the different terrain and animals that inhabit those ares.. There were life size displays of giraffes, lions, dinosaurs, live snakes, hyenas, bighorn sheep, live stingrays, a variety of birds, and many more.
