Pride in Community and Jewish Values
It has been wonderful this week to see our community share a number of experiences in the sukkahs, from meals to classes and activities.  These are times where our community can gather to share memorable experiences and moments grounded in our Jewish values.
Each week a Torah Portion (Parasha) is read during Shabbat services and Simchat Torah, celebrates the completion of the yearly reading of the Torah.  Simchat Torah, Hebrew for “rejoicing with the Torah”, celebrates this completion of the annual Torah reading and then starting from the beginning again. During Simchat Torah it is customary to rejoice with the Torah by dancing around the synagogue seven times.  Today, AEC students took the Torah scrolls from the Ark and danced around the Beit Midrash seven times. During the Torah service, the concluding section of Deuteronomy was read by a “Bridegroom” Torah (Hatan Torah), and immediately following, the opening section of Genesis was read by “Bridegroom” B’reisheet (Hatan B’reisheet).  With the help of our amazing band, who played a medley of Simchat Torah songs, our students and staff enjoyed singing, dancing and rejoicing with the Torah.
