Students across the country walked out of their classrooms on Wednesday, as they called for safer schools and stronger gun-control legislation following last month’s mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida. Instead of walking out, Adelson Campus High School students joined together in the theatre to honor the 17 people who lost their lives. AEC students and faculty read the bios and lit a candle for each student/teacher who were killed.
Third quarter closed on Wednesday, March 14th.
Last weekend, AEC Middle School students from the Project Beyond class competed in the California Regional Destination Imagination tournament. The students presented their original solutions to a challenge that included writing their own songs and lyrics, creating a structure that can hold hundreds of pounds, and many other self-directed tasks. Liahm B., Nicole M., Ryan R., Evan S., and Jonah T. competed in the “Change of Tune” challenge and placed 2nd. They also won the Da Vinci award for outstanding creativity. Marco A., Lorenzo C., and Elize I. competed in “Drop Zone” and won first place and the Spirit of D.I. award. Their advisors, Ms. Garrett and Ms. Peterson, were thrilled with their creativity and perseverance.
Sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students completed the WrAP assessment this week. The students worked hard each day! The results will be shared with families later this year.
Representatives from the Rape Crisis Center gave the third of four modules about the work they do as victims' advocates and the rules of consent during FLEX.
