Students Decorating Sukkah
Seen this week… our facilities team building the Sukkah on the outdoor patio and our eighth graders decorating it with paper chains and streamers! Coming five days after Yom Kipper, Sukkot celebrates the gathering of the harvest. Sukkot is observed by spending time and eating meals in this temporary, foliage-covered booth and by holding the arba minim -- four species of vegetation mentioned in the Torah (Leviticus 23:40). Chag Sameach!
Counselor Chosen for Prestigious Role
Just as fall weather was finally starting to set in, our middle school students had the opportunity to work with AEC Upper School Counselor, Jessica Pagel Lubbe and her Student Services colleagues on Life and Study Skills, making use of our beautiful outdoor patio and our Beit Midrash. These counseling and healthy development activities are an important part of our curriculum here at AEC, providing lifelong skills that help shape our students -- academically, socially, and emotionally -- as they transition into high school, and eventually, their adult lives. We are so fortunate to be able to offer this vital value add as part of the AEC experience.
And speaking of Mrs. Lubbe…. her professional excellence has now been recognized by her professional peers with her appointment this week to serve as the Charter/Private School Representative to the Nevada School Counselor Association (NvSCA). This position, recently created by the Executive Board of the NvSCA, attends monthly board meetings, provides input from a charter and private school counselor perspective, and helps the board maintain contacts with other school counselors working in charter and private schools. NvSCA President, Judy Pelto noted how impressed the board was with Mrs. Lubbe -- and we can’t help but share the same enthusiasm for our very own counselor! Mrs. Lubbe will remain in the Representative role until summer of 2021. This is the fourth selection of an AEC team member to a state-level position. AEC is proud of its faculty team and we are elated that their excellence continues to be recognized both inside and beyond the walls of the school!
