Pride in Community
9th and 10th graders welcomed Melanie Lewis, Adelson and PTO mom, into class this week to talk about nutrition and sleep. Melanie helped the students understand why and how they can be fueling their bodies in order to enhance their focus and performance at school. A few seniors even snuck into the 9th-grade class during their free period to participate in the discussion. 9th and 10th graders are already looking forward to their next wellness activity with Melanie later this semester!
Our 7th and 8th graders are excited about their upcoming overnight field trip to Zion Ponderosa where they will participate in a number of outdoor learning activities centered around our theme, Tashlich.
The High School is gearing up for their overnight field trip to the Los Angeles area.  Juniors and Seniors will visit the campuses of USC and UCLA, and our Sophomores and Freshmen will experience majors in action by visiting high-tech as well as medical and entrepreneurial businesses to experience these fields first hand.
* Remember, permission forms and payment for both the field trips are due Monday, September 9th.
Pride in Excellence
Congratulations to our AEC athletes for being named  Academic State Champions by the National Interscholastic Activities Association!  The NIAA honors the top 3 teams for each sport in their respective leagues. Last year our Boys Tennis team had the highest GPA in the state and were named Academic State Champions. Boys Soccer and Girls Cross Country finished 2nd. Girls Tennis, Boys Baseball and Swimming all finished 3rd! The GPAs ranged from a 3.49-3.88.   What a tremendous achievement!
Pride in Jewish Values
To celebrate the achievement of the new students mastering the Hebrew letters and sounds, some of our 6th and 7th grade Hebrew classes enjoyed baking cookies to spell their names.  This activity was a fun way to celebrate the culmination of their Mechina learning and getting a “taste” of the Hebrew language.
As Moses continued to share with Bnai Yisrael (the people of Israel)  the different laws and rules about how to establish their communal life, we at the Upper School continue to build our own community.  During Kabbalat Shabbat we honored our wonderful teachers and staff by sharing handwritten thank you notes. It was special to see the teachers lead the blessings for Shabbat, and to watch the special presentation of pictures of our teachers when they were young kids. Ms. Levi-Agami talked about student-teacher relations as seen in the Bible.
We would like to thank Mr. Phillipus and the talented band musicians for enhancing Shabbat with new songs like “Lecha Dodi” Sephardic style and the song “Ani Ma’amin”.
Shabbat Shalom
